Hampstead Village developed in the 17th century when the water from a well was believed to contain special qualities that were good for health. Many people moved to the area and built some of the houses that we see here today.
Several well-known writers, artists and intellectuals made their home in Hampstead e.g. Keats (the poet), Galsworthy (writer), Constable (painter) and others. |
