Terms and Conditions
In these Terms and
Conditions, ‘the Company’ refers to English Walks and ‘the Event’ to the guided
English Conversation Walks.
1 Booking and Your Contract with the Company
All bookings on our events are subject to the following terms and conditions and your acceptance of them constitutes a legally binding contract under English law. You will be deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions unless we hear from you within seven days of you receiving your booking confirmation (assuming a normal postal period).
To make a booking, please check the website, telephone or email us to check availability. To confirm your place, pay the full amount at least 7 days before the event. A confirmation receipt will be forwarded to you normally within 2 days of receipt of payment. The contract is made between us when we send this confirmation and we guarantee that the price of your event will not be subject to alterations.
2 Payment Terms and Methods of Payment
Payment is due in full 7 days before the event starts. Should the balance not be received by this date, your place may be cancelled. Our cancellation policy will apply.
Payment for all events must be made in pounds sterling. The company accepts the following payments:

• Paypal – via the website. Please follow the Paypal instructions to pay in full. An email will be sent to you to confirm payment. You do not need a Paypal account.
• BACS - Bank account details for BACS transfer payments may be requested at the time of booking. Please telephone or email for details.
• By cheque -. If for any reason a payment by cheque is returned unpaid by the issuing bank or has to be re-presented, a charge of £15.00 will be levied to cover bank and administration charges incurred.
Your booking will only be confirmed when payment has been cleared through the company’s bank account. We reserve the right to refuse participation on an event if payment is not received on time.
3 Discount Policy
We may offer discounts from time to time and unless otherwise stated, any discount available on an event may not be used in conjunction with any other special discount or offer.
4 Transfers and Substitutions
If you wish to transfer to another event, we must receive your written request at least 3 calendar days before the start date of the event that you originally booked. You need to tell us the date and name of the event to which you wish to transfer to and the alternative event must take place within 3 months of the event for which you originally booked. We will only accept transfers where the original booking has already been paid for in full.
6 Cancellations and Refunds
Please notify us about your cancellation in writing. When we receive your written cancellation, the following policy will apply:
Less than 3 days notice of cancellation before the event: English Walks will retain 100% of the cost
If the event takes place but you are unable to attend, your non-attendance will be taken as a cancellation on the day of the event and will attract a 100% cancellation fee.
7 Changes to the Programme and Itinerary
The English Walk programme may be subject to change from time to time (road closures, public events etc.). Occasionally it is necessary, for reasons beyond our control, to change the walk, date or venue. We undertake to keep you informed of these changes as soon as it is practicable.
Ø taking an alternative event (and where this is of a lower price, we will refund the difference), or
Ø withdrawing from the contract and accepting a full refund.
8 Cancellation Due to Lack of Demand or Circumstances Beyond our ControlIf we have to cancel your event before the date of departure, due to lack of demand or circumstances beyond our control, you will have the choice to:
Ø take an alternative event (and where this is of a lower price we will refund the difference) or
Ø withdraw from the contract and accept a full refund.
On very rare occasions we may have to cancel as a result of unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control. This specifically relates to the illness or injury of our key staff but also includes political upheaval, war or threat of war, riots, terrorist activities, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disaster, fire or adverse weather conditions, level of water in rivers or other similar events beyond our control. In such circumstances, you will have the choice to:
Ø take an alternative event (and where this is of a lower price we will refund the difference) or
Ø withdraw from the contract and accept a full refund.
9 Itinerary and Start Times
You are responsible for ensuring that you follow instructions provided by English Walks in respect of the start times for walks. The company cannot be liable for any loss or expense suffered by participants because of their late arrival or failure to follow the instructions provided.
10 Your Health & Safety
English Walks considers the health, safety and wellbeing of its clients to be of prime importance. It is your responsibility to notify us of any change to your health between paying in full and attending the event. We also reserve the right to refuse your participation if we believe your health is at risk. However, accidents and injuries can sometimes happen. In the interest of safety you must undertake to follow the instructions of your guide and follow any advice given on public notices on your walk. It is your responsibility to act sensibly and prudently at all times. The client to is expected to be responsible for him/herself.
11 Responsibility for Loss
The Company accepts no responsibility for loss of personal belongings during any of its events.
12 Insurance
English Walks has Public Liability Insurance which covers you for injury due to our negligence during an event. It does not cover you for injury from other causes or for loss or damage of your property. We therefore strongly advise you to arrange insurance to cover personal accident, cancellation of the event by yourselves or English Walks, loss of personal effects and personal liability. The company cannot accept responsibility for death, illness, injury or loss, other than that caused by our proven negligence.
13 Descriptions / Information PagesThe information given on English Walk’s website, leaflets and by its Representatives has been provided in good faith and we cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies. If you do find errors we would welcome hearing from you to let us know. English Walks reserves the right to make changes to these publications at any time.
14 Refreshments
14.1 Walk+ only. We begin our walks in a café or pub for introductions. You can select a soft up to the of £3.00 to be consumed on the premises. English Walks will pay for this drink. English Walks is not responsible for the quality of the range of drinks on offer where any drink is paid for by English Walks. If any customers have any specific dietary requirements we highly recommend that he/she bring his/her own drink.
14.2 All walks: English Walks will pay only for the drink described in clause 14.1 above. At the end of each London Walk, we will find a suitable place that serves drinks so that we can go over the new vocabulary together. All purchases shall be at the customer’s own expense.
14.3 Any purchases made by clients before, during or after the walk (other than that included in 14.1 above), shall be at your own expense.
15 Dogs
English Walks does not allow any dogs or other animals on our walks with the exception of Guide Dogs for the blind.
16 Wet Weather
Sometimes it rains and you will get wet! Our walks will go ahead as planned in our publicity programme, whatever the weather. We advise you to check the weather forecast prior to beginning a walk and ensure that you wear appropriate clothing.
16 Photographs
Sometimes English Walks will take photographs of you during a walk. We will ask your permission to use these in our documentation and website. The copyright for all such photographs belongs to English Walks.
17 Testimonials
English Walks will ask your permission to use any comments that you have made about the walk/s on its documentation and website.
18 Newsletters
English Walks reserves the right to send you information from time to time, if you has agreed to this.
19 Complaints
Should you feel that you need to make a complaint, please contact us straight away - either through the walk guide, telephone, via website, email or post. We will do everything we can to resolve the problem as quickly as we can so that your time with us is as enjoyable as possible. If we cannot resolve the issue there and then, please make a complaint within 14 days of attending one of our events and provide as much information as possible. We will do our best to resolve the issue amicably. In the rare event of us not being able to resolve the matter, you can follow it up through the small claims court.
20 Copyright
All content of English Walk’s website, leaflets and other material is protected by copyright, trade marks and other intellectual property rights. Customers may retrieve and display the content of English Walk’s website on a computer screen, store such content in electronic form on disk (but not any server or other storage device connected to a network) or print one copy of such content for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided customers keep intact all and any copyright and proprietary notices. Customers may not otherwise reproduce, modify, copy or distribute or use for commercial purposes any of the materials or content on the English Walks website without written permission from English Walks.
21 These Terms and Conditions will be subject to the laws of England and Wales and the English courts will have jurisdiction in respect of any dispute arising from the contract.

- Where an alteration is minor, we will advise you before the walk begins, but we are not obliged to pay you compensation.
- When an alteration is major (and a major alteration involves, for instance, changing the date or venue of walk) we will advise you as soon as it is reasonably possible.
